BRIEF HISTORY OF REFERENCE HOSPITAL OKENE
Reference Hospital, Okene (RHO), was established by a law enacted by the Kogi State House of Assembly on the 21st August, 2020 in response to the need for a tertiary health institution to provide facilities for diagnostic, curative, preventive or rehabilitative service in the Medical treatment for the people of Kogi state, and the immediate catchment area.
Reference Hospital Okene (RHO) is located in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. It is a 300 bedded Hospital with world-standard equipment and adequate land for future development. Reference Hospital Okene (a signature project) was built and equipped by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Former Executive Governor of Kogi State and commissioned by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 29th December, 2023.
The Pioneer Chief Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer (CMD/CEO), Professor Solomon Avidime assumed duties on 14th August, 2023, as appointed by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State.

To render efficient, affordable, prompt, and unrestricted access to clinical services to the people of Kogi State using ultra-modern facilities.
Our Vision
To provide facilities for diagnostic, curative, preventive or rehabilitative service in the Medical treatment for the people of Kogi state, and to render tidy research as applicable in modern tertiary Health institutions.

Profile of CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR PROFILE
Prof Solomon Avidime was born on 9th March, 1969 in Ihima district of Okehi Local Government of Kogi State.
He had his primary education in Holy Trinity primary school, Oboroke -Ihima and proceeded to CSS, Ogaminana where he obtained his General Certificate of Examination in 1986 as well as Higher School certificate at the Kwara state Poly, Ilorin in 1986.
He attended the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (A B U) Zaria where he bagged a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1998.
In 2006, he got a Masters in International Affairs & Diplomacy still from ABU Zaria, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the same institution in 2008, obtained a Fellowship ObGyn from the West Africa College of Surgeons in 2009, became a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) in 2019 and has a Masters in Public Health (2012), from ABU Zaria Awaiting completion.
His objective at the point of duty is to work with dedication towards the achievement of organizational and corporate objectives, thereby obtaining high level of professional and personal development.
Prof Avidime has 25 cognate years of Research/Scholarly experience and has attended several local and international conferences.
Publications: He has a total of 37 peer review articles to his credit in both local and international journals and 44 conference papers.
Working Experience
He has worked with State/ and Federal Ministries of Health and development partners,
- served as an Integrated supervisor of routine and national immunization days 2010-2013 WHO/NMA.
- Facilitator, FHi360 for the training of health workers of prevention of maternal to child transmission of HIV/AIDS.
- Consultant/Supervisor to PATHS2 for integrated maternal and child death review for Kaduna state 2017/2018.
- Facilitator UNFPA/FMoH for the finalization of FGM complication management document 2019.
- Member of the technical working group of the FMoH on the development of document for the elimination of gender base violence GBV.
He has Interests in Health system management, Reproductive health and International Health.
Prof Avidime’s administrative experience include occupying positions as
- Member of NMA National Executive Council 2008 to date.
- Chairman NMA Kaduna state 2010 – 2012.
- Board Member, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital 2017 to 2022 and
- Chief Medical Director Reference Hospital Okene 2023 to date.
His current job description includes-
- Chief Medical Director/CEO of the Kogi State Reference Hospital Okene
- Professor/Consultant and his activities includes healthcare management, training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, research and healthcare service delivery in the dept. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
His hobbies are Radio and television information, News and Sports magazines.
He is happily married with children.

Profile of HEAD OF ADMINISTRATION
Hajia Rabiat Sheidu Avosuahi was born on 9th June, 1976 in Okene Local Government Area of tye present day Kogi State.
She obtained her first school leaving certificate from St. Andrew’s school Okene in 1986 then proceeded to Government Girls Day Secondary School, Otutu, Okene for her senior secondary school certificate in1992.
She then went further to the Bayero University, Kano where she bagged a first degree in the year 2000 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the Usman Dan Fodio, Sokoto in 2010.
Hajia Rabiat served her fatherland under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Nigerian College of Aviation, Zaria between July 2000 and June 2001.
Upon completion of her service year, she secured employment with the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Okene in December 2007 as a class teacher and rose through the ranks to the position of Vice Principal (Administration) before she was transferred to the Reference Hospital, Okeneas Head, Administration in October, 2023. Her hobbies are reading and research. She is happily married with children.
